Back again

I took a week or so off to follow the Hamas - Israeli war. I did not want to comment because the bloggers from Israel and the spokesmen for the IDF were doing a fine job. I live here in the USA, not in Israel or in Gaza, so there was very little I could say of my own knowledge. I left it to the experts.

I did meet a number of interesting people on Twitter, most of whom I continue to follow. I don't see things getting any better over there, and I really don't think that Morsi, Egypt's President or his Muslim Brotherhood party has a lot of real interest in tamping down the Hamas terrorists, nor do I see them interested in reining in Iran's influence in the region. Part of the deal on Wednesday was that Egypt will crack down on the smuggling through the tunnels -- what's that? Did I just hear oinking and flapping overhead? Oh, well, then. I guess it's true.

I hope that Israel and the Israeli people are able to ride out these attacks and continue to prosper as the only real democracy in the Middle East. I'm sure that the call-up of the reserve forces and the extra unit training they received while on station at the frontier will serve them well in the days and weeks to come.

Iran is still very much on their horizon.

I am sorry that I am so cynical, but Cast Lead ended up being such a debacle, because of the leftists in the Knesset and their enablers in the Israeli press. They seem to have actually believed that if they made concessions to the Gazans that they could pull the fangs of the terrorists in Hamas. How droll that seems in retrospect. Nonetheless, those same voices from the Israeli left are promoting the same level of foolishness that brought about the IDF's abrupt withdrawal from Gaza during Operation Cast Lead. The futility of that withdrawal was showcased over the last ten days or so.

My wishes and prayers go out to the people of Eretz Yishrael but I have faith that G-D will spread his hands over them to protect them. We might all pray that the politicians in the Knesset and the cabinet offices are not swayed by the blandishments of the hostile leftists in the Israeli media.

Random Cullings From the Right Blogosphere

Here is a fascinating article by Daniel Mitchell, writing for TownHall Finance. The article gives you some idea what the tax and spend socialists of Europe and DC have in mind.
There is a relatively easy answer to the financial troubles of Europe, America and Asia. The answer lies in so-called “tax havens.” A consensus is emerging among the world’s major taxing powers that tax evasion may not be a good thing. …Jurisdictions specializing in the financial secrecy needed to avoid taxes exist in or near every major financial power. There’s Switzerland in Europe, the Cayman Islands off the U.S., Hong Kong in China, Bahrain in the Middle East and Jersey between the U.K. and France. But none has the military force to maintain secrecy against concerted outside pressure. The question has always been whether the pressure would be applied, and there is now some reason for hope.

Would you like to see a map that shows every county in America, and how they voted on November 6, 2012. The website (Politico) comes up with a national map, but hovering over a state gives gross statistics, and clicking on a state brings up a county by county map.

I'd say, "Fascinating, Captain." but I don't have the right kind of ears.

One last item before I publish this. If you haven't read Robert Stacy McCain's website, you should. it's here Robert Stacy McCain's website. His username on Twitter is @rsmccain. It will do your brain good! Salty, thoughtful and reliably conservative.

Have a good day, and if I have anymore brilliant thoughts to share, I'll be back later, If not, tomorrow is another day.

My First Cut Opinion On Conservative's Way Ahead

After reading the first couple of hundred tweets in my timeline this morning, I've decided that the group that will have my support are the ones saying fire Boehner, remove Cantor and McCarthey from policy positions, ditch Mitch McConnell, try to get Jim DeMint in as Majority leader in the Senate.

When the lame duck session begins, encourage Issa's investigations, continue to investigate State, DoD, Joint Chiefs and the President. We must dig deeply into the Benghazi debacle, and most importantly of all, sit tight on the moneybags (Congress' primary purpose) no increase in debt credit limit and don't compromise with higher tax rates. Rework tax code to increase revenues.

Finally, NO amnesty for illegals. I don't agree with Rush's comments this morning -- that we should grant citizenship to all illegals, but they can't vote for twenty-five years. They don't give a flying fig about voting, they want the welfare handouts. I live down here twelve blocks away, easily within sight of the iron fence at the border, and I know what's what. This small city is 85% Mexican, and the ability to speak English is not a common skill set.

As usual, my opinions are my own, but your comments are welcome below in the light brown 'Comment' link below.

Obama’s Layoff Bomb

From Michelle Malkin's blog. I'll just put in the link, rather than block-quoting the whole thing. Obama’s Layoff Bomb.

The comments that follow her article are as interesting as the article itself. Gloom and doom, certainly, but everything she's written is true. Add to that the hundreds, soon to be thousands of small companies laying off staff to get under the magic 50 employees, and/or cutting staff hours to under 29 hours with no overtime to stay under the '30 hours as full time' standard recently put forth by Obama's Labor Department.

Abbott and Costello on Unemployment

This came in my email this morning from an old friend back in my home town in Ohio.
COSTELLO: I want to talk about the unemployment rate in America.
ABBOTT: Good Subject. Terrible Times. It's 8.1%.
COSTELLO: That many people are out of work?
ABBOTT: No, that's 14.7%.
COSTELLO: You just said 8.1%.
ABBOTT: 8.1% Unemployed.
COSTELLO: Right 8.1% out of work.
ABBOTT: No, that's 14.7%.
COSTELLO: Okay, so it's 14.7% unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, that's 8.1%.
COSTELLO: WAIT A MINUTE. Is it 8.1% or14.7%?
ABBOTT: 8.1% are unemployed. 14.7% are out of work.
COSTELLO: IF you are out of work you are unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, Obama said you can't count the "Out of Work" as the unemployed. You have to look for work to be unemployed.
COSTELLO: BUT THEY ARE OUT OF WORK!!!
ABBOTT: No, you miss his point.
COSTELLO: What point?
ABBOTT: Someone who doesn't look for work can't be counted with those who look for work. It wouldn't be fair.
COSTELLO: To whom?
ABBOTT: The unemployed.
COSTELLO: But they are ALL out of work.
ABBOTT: No, the unemployed are actively looking for work. Those who are out of work gave up looking and if you give up, you are no longer in the ranks of the unemployed.
COSTELLO: So if you're off the unemployment rolls that would count as less unemployment?
ABBOTT: Unemployment would go down. Absolutely!
COSTELLO: The unemployment just goes down because you don't look for work?
ABBOTT: Absolutely it goes down. That's how Obama gets it to 8.1%. Otherwise it would be 14.7%. He doesn't want you to read about 14.7% unemployment.
COSTELLO: That would be tough on his reelection.
ABBOTT: Absolutely.
COSTELLO: Wait, I got a question for you. That means there are two ways to bring down the unemployment number?
ABBOTT: Two ways is correct.
COSTELLO: Unemployment can go down if someone gets a job?
ABBOTT: Correct.
COSTELLO: And unemployment can also go down if you stop looking for a job?
ABBOTT: Bingo.
COSTELLO: So there are two ways to bring unemployment down, and the easier of the two is to have Obama's supporters stop looking for work.
ABBOTT: Now you're thinking like the Obama Economy Czar.
COSTELLO: I don't even know what the hell I just said!
ABBOTT: Now you're thinking like Obama.
Sorta' makes you scratch your head, doesn't it. Twenty-three MILLION able-bodied working age adults un-employed or under-employed -- that's one in seven or so, but unemployment is ONLY about eight percent. And Americans, in their wisdom, re-elected Obama and all he stands for? It had to be the 'free stuff' that got them.

That makes ME scratch my head.

Another 'Day of Infamy'

Well, the election is over. Obama won a second term. Ohio lost on Josh Mandel, Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus, Cincinnati, faculty, staff and students at Ohio University at Athens voted for their Obamaphones, Obamacare and food stamps. None of those people seemed to  have considered who is going to pay for Obama's largesse.

Arizona elected Jeff Flake as our new senator, replacing John Kyl, so no net change in Senate numbers. Joe Arpaio won his sixth term, Pinal county, just south of Phoenix, re-elected Paul Babeau, another ardent supporter of protecting our border. In my own county, Cochise, we elected Mark Dannels, another Republican to replace Larry Dever. Martha McSally, running for Congress in my district is neck and neck with Gabby Gifford's hand-picked liberal candidate. Martha was an Air Force Colonel, the first female combat pilot and commanded a squadron in both Iraq and Afghanistan.  Arizona Daily Star article

Stock market down 300 points as I write. Business is not happy. EPA set to launch regulations that will cripple if not destroy the coal industry in this country. Obama promises more of the same for four more years. Israel is now left with no reasonable choice but to attack Iran's nuclear program. As Ha'aretz said this morning, "Start filling your sandbags, it's going to be a rough ride."

This is my first new post in quite some time but I'll probably post a lot more often now. Please feel free to comment on any post. After having been threatened by my critics a couple of years ago I continue to take a dim view of threats or generally hostile comments. Other than that, feel free to respond to anything.
